Slide 1 - Diapositive

Learning goals
At the end of this lesson I can:
- Collaborate to find the correct answer
- Respect other people's answers
- Make a decision as a group
- Shoot a piece of paper in a thrash bin!

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Trashket ball
I will divide you into duo's.
A question will be shown on the board which you will need to solve.
When the timer is up, you will show your whiteboard (with working out).
If your answer is correct, you will get the chance to throw the ball in the trashcan.
Hitting from nearby gives you 1 point
Hitting from the middle gives you 2 points
Hitting from far away gives you 3 points.
The top 3 duo's will get a chocolate egg !

Substitution
If a = -2, b = 5, c = -6, d = 10 and e = 9
Find the value of each expression:

a + 3c - e

Slide 6 - Diapositive

Substitution
If a = -2, b = 5, c = -6, d = 10 and e = 9
Find the value of each expression:

a + 3c - e = (-2) + 3(-6) -
= -2 + -18 - 9
= -2 - 18 - 9
= -29

Word problems
There were initially 16 ice cubes in the freezer. After placing 2 ice cubes each into x glasses, only 4 ice cubes remained in the freezer. Summarize this information as an equation and find the amount of glasses x.

Just the solution for x is not enough!

Word problems
There were initially 6 ice cubes in the freezer. After placing 2 ice cubes each into x glasses, only 4 ice cubes remained in the freezer. Summarize this information as an equation and find the amount of glasses x.

16 = 2x + 4

12 = 2x

6 = x

Slide 18 - Diapositive

Equations with variables on both sides
2(5t+8) = 4(2t+4)
(2⋅5t) + (2⋅8) = (4⋅2t) + (4⋅4)
10t + 16 = 8t + 16

2t + 16 = 16

2t = 0

t = 0
