Why is this a world famous picture?

This quote was said by Rosa Parks, she was an important role model for many people. Although all Rosa Parks did was just refuse to give up her seat, that made a huge impact in the world during that time.

Rosa Parks (Alabama 1933) werd begin 1950 actief in de African-American civil rights movement.

Op 1 december 1955 weigerde ze om haar zitplaats in het "zwarte gedeelte" van een bus af te staan aan blanke passagiers toen het "blanke gedeelte" vol raakte, zoals de wet in Alabama dat toen voorschreef. 

De politie werd erbij geroepen en Parks kreeg een boete van $14. Toen ze weigerde te betalen, werd ze gearresteerd en in februari 1956 berecht voor verstoring van de openbare orde.

De Supreme Court stelde haar in het gelijk en stelde de rassensegregatie als onwettig.
