  • He has explored in six continents.
  • Amos was an explorer.
  • He went to many countries.
  • He went to Japan.
  • He crossed the Sahara Desert.
  • He never explored in America.

When talking about travel...
Never use: "... has gone to ..."

But use: "... has been to ..."

  • Sit in groups of three (according to your number)
  • Imagine you're interviewing Brian
  • Come up with as many questions as you can, starting with "Have you ever ..."

Interviewing your peers
  • Come up with four questions to ask your peers
  • Walk around the classroom and ask your questions
  • Use the stucture: "Have you ever ...?" - "Yes, I have/ No, I haven't"
  • Note down your peers anwers & keep tally

  • Report to the class (E.g. Nine students have eaten raw fish. No one has ever seen a ghost...)
  • Use PRESENT PERFECT!

Past Simple? Past Continuous?
I was skating and I fell.
Past continuous provides a frame for the event expressed in the past simple.
Can you re-phrase using WHEN?

Highlight the use of p.s. and p.c. in the sentence I was skating and I fell.

Point out that pc provides a frame for ps

Re-phrase with When: I was skating when I fell.

  • a person with a bandaged finger
  • a person with a bad back
  • a person who has a stomach ache

One person mimes the elements of a sentence. The others guess.

The sentences on slips of paper.

Who guesses -> next turn
! The student must say the complete sentence to win !

In the end: Students write down as many sentences as they remember, using the names of the pupils miming them. 

My example: I was watching football and I fell asleep.
Use

Who...?
Where...?
Why...?
Once, when I was ...-ing, I found/lost/saw ...
Once, when I was travelling in Egypt, I lost my passport

  2. Sit in groups of three.
  3. Each read out your sentence + rest asks Wh-Qs.
  4. Report to class.
