Notes:
1. Nicotine - substance that gets people addicted
2. Tar - in the tobacco leaves, released when smoking
            - damages cilia
3. Carbon monoxide - gas released while smoking
            - blood is less able to transport oxygen

E- cigarettes - Evaporated liquid that contains 
nicotine and flavouring
Vape pen - a form of e-cigarette but does not always contain nicotine : can contain metals, nitrogen compounds which can cause heart problems and cancer
Hookah- 30 times more carbon monoxide released - can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning

  • Smoking is an addiction
  • People become psychologically dependent
  • Habituation - more and more nicotine needed
  • People become physically dependent
  • Withdrawal symptoms

Measures to tackle smoking
- increasing the price of cigarettes
-warning signs on packets of cigarettes
-no advertising
-tobacco may not be sold to people
 under the age of 18

  • Contains psychoactive substance THC - tetrahydrocannabinol
  • Found in the female flower of the plant
  • Can be smoked, eated, or inhaled
