Creating an Assessment
As a Pro user, you can turn any LessonUp lesson into an assessment by sliding the toggle button next to "Assessment" in the LessonUp edit screen.

This means you don't have to redesign all the quiz and/or open-ended questions for an assessment. So, it's also possible to use a previously administered (diagnostic) quiz as an assessment.

Additionally, you can add regular slides and videos as part of your assessment.

Test settings
Once you have created an assessment, the "Teach" button changes to "Test settings." All settings for the test,
such as assigning points, grading, and conducting the assessment, can be found behind the "Test Settings" button.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

Points

Under the "Points" tab, you can assign between 1 and 5 points per question. Points can also be assigned to a question in the edit screen.

Good to know 💡: The maximum score per question cannot be changed once the assessment has been handed out.

Hand out (1/4)
To distribute an assessment, you must first create one or more classes. Click on "Create a class" for this purpose.

  1. Select the desired class from the overview and click on "Distribute to [class name]."
  2. Optionally, enter a message for the class.

Hand out (2/4)
There are three options that you can then check:

Option 1: Randomize sets of questions

By checking the box for "Randomize sets of questions
," the order of the questions will be different for each student. Consecutive means that there are no other slides or videos between the questions. If there are other slides or videos, LessonUp will keep the questions together between the slides or videos, but place them in random order. This allows you to place a series of questions with a specific video or slide (containing information and/or source materials).

Option 2: Students are not allowed to access my other LessonUp lessons during the test

By checking the box for "Students are not allowed to access my other LessonUp lessons during the test," you prevent students from accessing other lessons in LessonUp during the assessment.

Option 3: Let my students take the test in fixed order

By checking the box for "Let my students take the test in fixed order," you make the assessment linear for students. They cannot go back or forward in the assessment to review previous or upcoming questions. With this option, they also cannot access the assessment overview.

Test scheduling
You can schedule a test in advance. The assessment will then open and close at the times you have indicated. You can also specify the duration of the test. This last option also works when you start a test without scheduling it.

Good to know 💡: Although you cannot distribute a test to multiple classes simultaneously, it is possible to distribute tests multiple times. To do this, repeat the steps described above.

Status (1/2)
In the screen visible after the assessment has been distributed, "Status," you can see which students have access to the assessment, which students (in green) have started the assessment, and which students (in red) have not yet started. If a student is not present, click on the "X" next to their name to remove them from the assessment.

The students can see the assessment in their LessonUp environment, but the questions are not yet visible.

Start the test for the students by clicking on the "" button. You only need to click "Start test" if you have not entered a start time. The same applies to "Close assessment."

Status (2/2)

What can you see/do while students are taking the test?
  1. View the interim report under "Progress": Check the progress of each student.
  2. A red symbol next to "My LessonUp" card indicates an ongoing assessment.
  3. If you have scheduled an assessment but the students need a little more time, click on
    "Extend test with 5 minutes."

Once the assessment is completed, close the assessment by clicking on "Close the test." You can now start grading the assessment.

Tip 💡: Inform the students that they should click on "Submit" when they have finished the assessment.

Revise
  1. Click on the "Revise" button or tab to grade the assessment.
  2. You can grade question by question or student by student, according to your preference.

Which answers do I need to grade?
  • Multiple-choice questions and open questions with a predefined correct answer will be automatically graded.
  • Open questions without an answer need to be manually graded, and points can be assigned.
  • Drag-and-drop questions will be automatically graded, but points need to be manually assigned according to your judgment.

How to grade
Based on the points achieved per student, LessonUp calculates the grade on a scale between 1 and 10 (achieved score x 0.9 + 1), 0 and 10 (achieved score/total score x 10), or by using the n-term.

You can still adjust the grade according to your judgment. Students can see the assigned grades in their app.

Open test revision for students
The assessment can be reviewed with the students.

  1. Go to the "Handout" tab in Test settings
  2. Find the desired assessment and click on "Open test revision for students."

The test will now be made available in the student environment, and the test can be reviewed. Students can access pre-entered answers independently.

Question: If the test is scheduled and you, as the teacher, are not online on LessonUp, will it still be automatically opened?
Answer: Yes, when you have scheduled the test, it will automatically start even if you are not logged in as a teacher. The test will proceed according to the scheduled time, regardless of your online status on LessonUp.
