Unit 14 - Spending money

What do you like to spend your (parents' :) ) money on?

Do you like to go shopping (with friends)?

Have an open 'discussion' with students about what they like to spend their money on and if they like to go shopping etc. 

They have to raise their hand and listen to each other's answers.

Vocabulary: Shops

There are different kinds of shops. Which ones do you know? Write down which different (types of) shops you know. In English of course.

They first think of which types of shops there are by writing down what types of shops they know (2 min). Then we'll discuss, I'll write along on the board with what they say. (2 min)

These are the actual words in the book that they have to know. 12 types of shops. Ask students what they sell at each of these. This time, focus on the students that don't usually give answers instead of the ones that always want to give an answer. (So basically on the ones that don't raise their hand)

On p. 80 there's a text with some advertisements.

While we read the text together (I will ask a few of you to read out loud too), write down which type of store (of the 12 we just talked about) each advertisement is about.

Write this down in your notebook. We'll discuss your answers when we're done reading.

Speaking: The market

1. You (person A) Ask your neighbour if they have ever been to a market before. Your neighbour (Person B) answers with yes or no and if it's yes, they also tell you when and where and what they sold at this market. If it's no, they tell you what kind of market they would like to go to some day.

2. Then the roles reverse and person A answers the question that person B asks them. It's the same question.

A short speaking exercise. They will get 2-3 minutes for this and it's mostly to get more aquainted with speaking more English. After 2-3 minutes I will ask a few people at random if their neighbour has ever been to a market and when and where that was. (2 min)
