Quantifiers: each/every/both/all/every/no

At the end of the lesson, you will be able to use modals positive and negative forms.

What are Quantifiers?

Quantifiers are words used to express quantity or amount. Examples include all, both, either, neither, each, every and no.

Define what quantifiers are and give examples of common quantifiers to ensure students understand the concept.

Examples

All of the students passed the test.

Both books are a must-read.

Explain how quantifiers are used in positive form and provide an example to help students understand the concept.

Both = beide/allebei

• Je gebruikt 'both' bij twee personen, dieren of dingen.

• Het zelfstandig naamwoord staat in het meervoud.

Example: 

• Both fugitives were captured by the police.
• Sarah watched both girls as they entered the room.

Every = elke, iedere

• Je gebruikt 'every' als je het hebt over drie of meer mensen, dieren, dingen en om nadruk te leggen op elke individueel in een groep. Na every wordt enkelvoud gebruikt.

Example: 

• Every professional footballer has a strict diet.
• There was police on every corner.

All (alle/allemaal)

• Je gebruikt 'all' als je het hebt over een hele groep en de nadruk ook ligt op de groep en niet alle individuele leden. Na "all" komt er een meervoud

Example: 

• The suspect admitted to all charges.
• I've collected all seasons of Prison Break.
• Susan has all collector items of Star Trek

No (geen enkel)

Betekent simpelweg geen enkel

Na "no" komt er een enkelvoudig woord

Examples:

''No obstacle could stop her.''

''We have no time to finish this project.''

Both, either, neither, each, all, every, none

 ..........child over five has to go to school in England.

 ...........children over five have to go to school in England.

Although it was my birthday and not my wife's, Mary brought a present for .........of us.

"Have you got any books on holidays in Scotland ?" -"No, I'm sorry, ..........at all."

Would you like to take ..........of these two dresses, madam ?

Jack gets up at six Saturday.

Provide a sentence with a blank and ask students to fill in the blank with an appropriate modal or quantifier in either positive or negative form.
