What is Past Simple and how do we form it?
De verleden tijd noemen we in het Engels de Past Simple.

We gebruiken de Past Simple als iets in het verleden is gebeurd en er een (verleden) tijdsbepaling in de zin staat.​

Form it: Regular verbs: add -ed (e.g., walked, talked) 
                Irregular verbs: various forms (e.g., went, ate)

Signal Words
Words such as yesterday, last week, ago, and in 2010 indicate the use of past simple.
Last: I broke my leg last Friday.​
Ago: I saw him two days ago.​
When: When I was younger I owned​ a BMW.​
Date: He lived here in 2006.​
Yesterday: I got my money yesterday.

Regular verbs (WW)
Walk-> Walked
Love-> Loved 
Live-> Lived 

Regular verb: ww + (e)d​
Example: I walked to school yesterday.​
       to walk: regular verb​

Irregular verbs
Eat-> Ate
Be-> Was/Were
Sing-> Sang

Irregular verb: ww + (e)d​
Example: I ate too much yesterday. ​
To eat = onregelmatig ​
to eat – ate - eaten

Exceptions!
1.Werkwoorden die eindigen op een medeklinker = -y op het einde -> +ied​
Example: to try -> he tried​
​​
Maarrrrrrrr… klinker= -y -> +ed​ 
Example: to enjoy -> I enjoyed dinner yesterday.​​
2. Werkwoorden die al eindigen op een e -> +d​
Example: to love= She loved me.​
To promise= She promised me that!​

Activity: Past Simple Charades
First, think of twenty past simple verbs. You have six minutes.

Next, in groups of two you will act out past simple verbs while others guess the action. (e.g., danced, laughed)

last semester, impressive accomplishment!
