Goal: I can make questions and negations in the past simple.

What do you need?

1. Pen/pencil
2. Notebook (schrift)
3. Workbook (werkboek) 

Past simple – questions

We can use past simple questions to ask about the past.

We gebruiken de woorden: was, were and could in het begin van de zin om vragen te stellen. 

Was -> I, he, she, it.

Were -> you, we, they.

Could -> alles.

For example:

Were you already asleep at midnight?

Could you hear our neighbours this morning?

Did vragen:

Did + infinitive (hele werkwoord)

Did you enjoy the match last weekend? 

Let op! Het woordje did is al in de verleden tijd dus de infinitive (het hele werkwoord) staat gewoon in de normale vorm.

WH-questions

Wanneer je een van de volgende woorden: who, what, why, when, where, how aan het begin van de zin zet kan je did erachter zetten. For example:

When did you get to the train station?

Where did I put my phone?

How do we answer these questions?

We make yes or no answers with did or didn't.

Did you finish your homework? Yes, I did.

Did your friend call you yesterday? No, she didn't.

Negations (ontkenning = nee)

We use didn't (did not) to make negatives with the past simple:

They didn't go to Spain this year.

We didn't get home until very late last night.

I didn't see you yesterday.
