Rome was influenced by its neighbors (Etruscans and Greeks).

3 out of 7 kings of Rome were even Etruscan.

Effect= almost all Romans hated him.

Rome became a Republic
In 509 BC, the king's nephew Lucius Brutus, had had enough. In the forum, he delivered a passionate speech to a crowd of Romans. Brutus asked which form of government Rome should have, and swore Rome would never be ruled by a king again. 

 The Roman people voted to become a Republic.
