Rome was influenced by its neighbors (Etruscans and Greeks).

3 out of 7 kings of Rome were even Etruscan. 

The Etruscans

11 wealthy city-states next to Rome. They ruled over Rome for more then 100 years.

They influenced the Romans.

The last king

Etruscan Tarquinius Superbus

 (Tarquinius the Arrogant)

-Also, he forced poor people to work until they collapsed.

-Executed a lot of Senators.

-Raped his daugther in law.

Effect= almost all Romans hated him.

Rome became a Republic

In 509 BC, the king's nephew Lucius Brutus, had had enough. In the forum, he delivered a passionate speech to a crowd of Romans. Brutus asked which form of government Rome should have, and swore Rome would never be ruled by a king again. 

 The Roman people voted to become a Republic.
