SpeakOut lesson 8d: A gifted learner

Goals of this class

BBC programme: understand a TV programme about a gifted language learner.

Speaking: you are going to talk about the best ways to learn a language.

Writing: you are going to write a forum comment about language learning.

Grammar: -ing forms.

Discuss in pairs.

Put Ss into pairs and ask them to make a sentence that reflects their views, e.g. ‘Learning English is similar to climbing a tree.’ Ask Ss to share their sentences and explain them in open class, or with another pair, e.g. ‘We think learning English is similar to climbing a tree because when you get to one branch you feel good, but then you see lots more branches in front of you.’

What are you going to do in the summerbreak?

Put Ss into small groups and ask them to ask each other for help with a real problem they have. They should try to think of something technical, but if not they can think of other problems. Ss can then make suggestions to each other.
