Adjectives

• Bijvoeglijk naamwoord
• Geven informatie over een zelfstandig naamwoord
• Bijvoeglijk naamwoord geeft aan WAT dat zelfstandig naamwoord is
• The sweet girl left school.
• The man is old.

Adverbs

• Bijwoord
• Geven informatie over HOE iets gebeurt 
• Bijwoorden zeggen iets over: werkwoorden,  bijvoeglijk naamwoord of over andere bijwoorden
• The girl quietly told me her name.
• The man is really old.
• She sings extremely well.

They think English is EASY.

Adverbs

• Zoals je ziet eindigen bijwoorden vaak op -ly
• Meestal maak je het bijwoord zo: adjective + ly
• quiet  > quietly

 

• Sommige zijn onregelmatig (good > well, fast, hard, daily) 
• Soms verandert de spelling (bv happy > happily)
• Niet alle bijwoorden eindigen op -ly (bv. always, never, often)

Ajective or adverb?

LET OP!  Bij deze 5 werkwoorden moet je altijd een bijv. naamwoord gebruiken, ook al gaat het om hoe iets gebeurt:

• The soup tastes bad.
• The cake smells great.
• That dress looks good on you.
• The music sounds loud.
• I feel calm.

Als je wil vergelijken kun je

• than gebruiken >  He's taller than I am. 
• (not) as ....as gebruiken >  It's not as tasty as it smells.
