Lesson goal: You know how to apply the two ethical theories and can formulate arguments for both side of a statement

Ethical theories

- Consequentialism: you look at the consequences of one's actions

- Deontology: looks at the action itself

Babies and science

When conception doesn't happen:

- IFV, ICSI, donors (egg and sperm donors)

- Adoption

When parents have a hereditary diseases:

- Embryo selection

But what if parents want to choose: hair color? Sex of the baby?

When parents can't take care of their children:

- Foster care

Assignment

- In groups of 4

- Look up more information about: adoption, IFV/ICSI, embryo selection and donor eggs/sperm

- Give a short summary: what is, how does it work, what are the current laws, why do people need/want it?

- Make an overview of the ethical arguments that can be given both in favor and against (at least 5 for each)

- Write arguments for deontology and consequentialism

Assignment (T0)

- Prepare a debate about the subject you have researched

- You have to write 2 statements  that can be discussed in class about one of the 4 topics discussed

- Assign 2 jury members and one debate leader from your group

-
