Translating sentences: How do you go about it?

Today's goals:

• I can translate Dutch sentences to English.
• I know the steps to easily translate a Dutch sentence to English.

How to translate Dutch sentences?

1. Take a closer look at the Dutch sentence. What does it mean?2. Come up with the English translations for the Dutch words. 

2. Check the sentence structure and adapt the sentence accordingly. 

4. Pay attention to signal words and/or meaning of the sentence and write down the correct tense.

Choose the correct word order that needs to be used in English sentences:

1. Wie - doet - waar - wat - wanneer
2. Wie - doet - waar - wanneer - wat
3. Wie - doet - wat - wanneer - waar
4. Wie - doet - wat - waar - wanneer

Translate: Ze kenden elkaar al vijf jaar toen ze trouwden.

Translate: Het gedicht dat Anna kreeg, hangt al vijf jaar aan de muur.

Translate: De nieuwste auto is niet net zo snel als de mooiste trein.

1. Choose the set of sentences that you want to work on: Either the set with the high-frequency words or the one that includes words from the word list.

2. Work on this exercise for the next 15 minutes.

3. You may discuss the exercises with the classmates sitting at your table.

4. You can use your books or ask me any questions if you need help.

5. When you're done you work on the other set or learn the words of Unit 1.
