Setting and atmosphere
The story is set in war-torn Dublin, where the atmosphere is tense and dangerous. The setting plays a crucial role in shaping the mood and events of the story

Introducing "The Sniper"
Written by Liam O'Flaherty, 'The Sniper' is a short story set during the Irish Civil War. It follows a Republican sniper on a rooftop as he engages in a deadly game with the enemy.

Week 8, Hearts and Hands
1. Place: Denver, train to the east. Time: probably late 19th century, because the time of American westward expansion was roughly between 1800-1860.
2. Pretty young lady, experienced traveler
 Young handsome man, frank appearance.
 Ruffled-looking man, heavily built, roughly dressed.
3. They are handcuffed together.
4. Mr. Easton, the younger, fine looking man. Miss Fairchild. They are old friends.
5. One is a marshal and is taking the other to prison. The marshal has handcuffed himself to the prisoner so he cannot escape.
6. She spent the summer there with her mother.
7. To have a drink and a smoke.
8. A) The prisoner really is the marshal.
B) the real marshal saved Mr. Easton from the embarrassment of having to tell his lady friend that he had to go to prison.
9. Because she is the person misunderstanding the situation with her old friend.
