Gender Identity

Gender identification refers to one's perception of one's gender. Gender identification can either correlate with or diverge from a person's assigned sex. Gender expression is often associated with gender identification, but this is not always the case. While a person may exhibit actions, attitudes, and appearances congruent with a specific gender role, such manifestation does not always reflect their gender identity. Robert J. Stoller invented the term "gender identity" in 1964.

Typical Sex Development

• Both males and females have 46 chromosomes 
• Two of these are sex chromosomes

Brain Differences 

• The brains of a males are 9-12% larger than the brains of females. 

If the male brain is larger than a female brain. Are males smarter than a female.

Parents can act negatively to inappropriate gender role play. The study also shows that sex segregation starts in preschool playgroups. 

Television is a symbolic model that children are gender-stereotyped.

Kohlberg's belief a similar to Piaget's; once you understand your gender growing up, you correlate with your development.
