Ige alakja: Múlt/Sima (ha nincs DID, akkor múlt, ha már van DID, akkor sima)

Használat:

1. Múltbeli lezárult cselekvés     I was in a nice restaurant last weekend.
   
2. Történetmesélés (egymást lineáris sorrendben követő cselekvések a múltban)      

She was very upset. She went to the local grocery, looked for a Menthos, but she couldn't find any. Then she asked the shopkeeper for help, and he showed her the shelf where the sweets were. Klotild was happy, bought the stuff and went home. Later she watched the new episode of Esmeralda and went to bed at 11:30.

look for

Léteznek ún. Phrasal Verb-ök. Ezek olyan igék, amik mögé rakunk egy vonzatot és ezáltal teljesen megváltozik a jelentése. Pl. 

to look = nézni DE 

to look for = to search = keresni

Használat:

1. Múltbeli folyamat, hosszabb ideig tartó cselekvés     

                           I was playing on the Playstation all night yesterday.

   2. Összetett mondatok esetén ilyeneket is tudunk kreálni:

       2/A. Valami zajlott, zajlott és egyszercsak volt közben egy pontszerű cselekvés:

                       She was watching the Exatlon when I entered the room.

       2/B. Egymással párhuzamosan zajló cselekvések a múltban:

                       They were dancing while Ödön was drinking at the bar.

Mi zajlott épp?

Figyeljünk, hogy olyankor is ezt fogjuk használni, amikor olyan kérdésünk van, hogy "épp mit csináltál, amikor...?"
Ugye gyakorlatilag a kérdés arra fog vonatkozni, hogy milyen folyamat közben voltál éppen, így Past Continuous kell ;)

Read and translate the following text! Watch for the tenses.

An old pirate was sitting in the bar. He was smoking a pipe and drinking a glass of rum. He was wearing an eye patch and he had a parrot on his shoulder and a wooden leg. Instead of his right hand he had a metal hook. A young sailor was chatting with the pirate and he asked him about his adventures at sea.

     ‘So, how did you lose your leg?’, the young man asked the pirate.

     ‘Arrr! ,’ said the pirate, ‘You see, some sharks were circling the ship when I fell overboard. Luckily, my men pulled me back onto the ship before the sharks ate me completely, but one of the sharks got my leg.’

     ‘And how about the hook on your hand? How did you lose your hand?’

     ‘I was boarding a ship when another sailor cut off my hand with a sword.’

     ‘That’s amazing! What a life full of adventures!’ said the young man. ‘And how about your eye? How did you lose that?’

      ‘I was eating a grapefruit when the juice went into my eye.’

      ‘But I don’t understand. How did you lose your eye from the grapefruit juice?’

     ‘Arrr!’ said the pirate, ‘it was my first day with the new hook.’
