4 Phases

• Where food enters the digestive tract

• This happens in the mouth.

Ingestion

Mechanical Digestion:

This is when the food is broken down into smaller pieces physically by your teeth and muscle contractions in the digestive organs.

Chemical Digestion:

This is when the food is broken down into smaller pieces chemically by enzymes added to the digestive tract.

Digestion

This is when the smallest broken down nutrients enter the bloodstream through the villi (folds in your intestines).

Absorption

Molecules that the body doesn't need are removed by the kidneys in a process called excretion.

The kidneys filter the blood continuously (~180 liter a day).

What is the Urinary System?

Cleaning toxins and waste from your blood, controlling water levels in your body and excreting the waste chemicals and excess water.
