Comparatives and superlatives

A quick recap

-er/-est

For words that have one syllable. (1)

• weak -> weaker (than) -> (the) weakest
• big - bigger (than) -> (the) biggest
• busy -> busier (than) -> (the) busiest

more -/most -

For words that have two or more syllables. (2+) 

• famous -> more famous (than) -> (the) most famous
• difficult -> more difficult (than) -> (the) most difficult
• expensive -> more expensive (than) -> (the) most expensive

-er/-est and more -/most -

For some words that have two syllables, we can use both. (2)

• narrow -> narrower or more narrow.
• simple -> simplest or most simple.
