a contest, almost a game, where two or more speakers present their arguments with the intention of persuading one another.

Debate structure
  1. The chairperson introduces the topic and the 1st proposition speaker.
  2. The 1st proposition speaker gives a full overview of the topic and their view.
  3. The 1st opposition speaker argues against what the 1st proposition speaker says and comes up with a new argument.
  4. The 2nd proposition speaker gives their view along with any new points.
  5. The 2nd opposition speaker gives their speech.
  6. The 3rd proposition speaker gives their view along with any new points.
  7. The 3rd opposition speaker gives their speech.
  8. The debate is opened to the floor.
  9. The opposition summary (or ‘closer’) speaker summarises the opposition’s arguments.
  10. The proposition summary (or ‘closer’) speaker summarises the proposition's main arguments.
