- Famous work from the Middle English period.
- Represented the time Geoffrey Chaucer lived in.
- Several social classes were described.
- The book was never finished.

A group of different people go on a pilgrimage from London to Canterbury
Each person needs to tell a story on the way there and back (a frame story).

A squire was typically a young boy, training to become a knight. A boy became a page at the age of 7 then a squire at age 14. Squires were the second step to becoming a knight, after having served as a page.
