Introduction:

Writing: Essay - part 1

1. Introduction = present your argument = Change question to affirmative sentence
2. Paragraph 1 = note 1
3. Paragraph 2 = note 2
4. Paragraph 3 = note 3 = own idea
5. Conclusion = answer your argument = introduction

Introduction:

Essay - Outline

1. Introduction = keywords + linking
2. Paragraph 1 = key words note 1 & synonyms + linking words
3. Paragraph 2 = key words note 2 & synonyms + linking words
4. Paragraph 3 = key words own idea & synonyms + linking words
5. Conclusion = key words introduction & synonyms + linking words

Example:

In your English class you have been talking about the environment and a healthy climate. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay.

Is it true that we help the environment when we plant a tree?

=> Argument 

• In this essay I will argue/discuss whether or not planting a tree is helpful for the environment.
• Nowadays the people tend to think that planting a tree is benefitial for the environment, but is it?

Introduction:

Essay - Outline

1. Introduction = environment / tree 
2. Paragraph 1 = clear the air (pollution, clean air, reducing CO2) + First, Firstly, 
3. Paragraph 2 = Provide shade & hide sun, less warm, cool + Second, Secondly, Furthermore, Additionally 
4. Paragraph 3 = deforestation, farming of wood, sustainable wood + linking words + Third, Thirdly, Additionally, Furthermore
5. Conclusion = agree/disagree, environment, tree & beneficial, useful + In conclusion, Overall, In Summary

Writing strategies / during:

• Use as many words you can from the assignment.
• Follow your outline.
• Use synonyms, descriptions if you do not remember the word.
  
• Avoid repetition.
• Use linkers and referencing.
  

Writing strategies / after:

• Read your essay, change any sentences that do not run properly.
• Check if you have included all aspects of the assignment.
• Check capitals and spelling.
  
• Check for repetition => change if necessary.

Example:

In your English class you have been talking about the old people and society. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay.

Around the world, people are living and staying healthy for longer and longer. What changes does this bring to today's society? Are these changes good or bad?
