Note: The threat is growing

Water is a big threat to the Netherlands, both by the sea and the rivers. 

Due to the climate change, the threats become even bigger...

• Rising Sea level + subsiding land.
• Rising water levels in rivers.

Note: Polder

A polder is an area surrounded by dykes in which the water level can be controlled. This can be done by mills or pumps.

So if water is the problem? Why not simply pump all the water out?

Concluding:

Besides the rising water levels another big problem in the Netherlands is...

• the process of subsidense

Because (2):

• groundwater comes up inside the polder (seepage)
• Rising levels of salt (salination)

Conclusing:

So what might be a solution?

• Pump extra fresh water in the polders
