Prefixes + Suffixes
They both change the meaning of the word.
Zij veranderen de betekenis van het woord. 

Prefixes are letters you can place before a word. 
Voorvoegsels zijn letters die je voor het woord plaatst. 

Suffixes are letters that go at the end of a word.
Achtervoegsels zijn letters die je achter het woord plaatst.

Mis- means 'wrong' (verkeerd) or 'not' (niet)
  1. place -> misplace
  2. understand -> misunderstand
  3. use -> misuse
  4. behave -> misbehave

These prefixes all mean 'not' (niet) or
 'the opposite' (tegenovergestelde)
  1. non-             sense -> nonsense
  2. un-               used -> unused
  3. im-               possible -> impossible
  4. il-                  legal -> illegal
  5. in-                compatible -> incompatible
  6. ir-                 responsible -> irresponsible
  7. dis-             appear -> disappear

-er is also used to compare things
  1. sing -> singer
  2. write -> writer
  3. small -> smaller
  4. big -> bigger

-ful means 'something or someone has a certain characteristic'
  1. He likes to play -> He is playful
  2. The painting has lots of colours -> The painting is colourful
  3. They are full of joy -> They are joyful

  1. He has no fear -> He is fearless
  2. The operation gave him no pain  -> It was painless

-ing is used for 'products or actions'
  1. to build -> building
