Active vs Passive
Active:
  • In an active sentence the subject performs the action.
  • Example: They build these ships in Japan.

Passive:
  • In a passive sentence the subject undergoes the action.
  • These ships are built in Japan.

The present simple passive is used to talk about the following:

The past simple passive must be used when:
  • There is an indication of time like yesterday, last year, in 2003, two weeks ago.

How do we form the past simple passive?
  1. Pick between was and were.
  2. Use the past participle.
