Slide 4 - Diapositive

Industrialisation
Because of the import of cotton from colonies, people started thinking about ways how to produce cotton more efficiently.
Effect: the invention of spinning machines to spin threads.

These machines were too big to put at home. So, these machines were put in factories
--> Start of the Industrial Revolution.

Causes industrialisation
  • Growth of the population due to better agriculture
  • Increasing demand for cotton (and thus the need to build extra   factories)
  • Farmes lost their jobs and moved to the city to work in the factories =   urbanisation
  • European countries had access to raw materials from their colonies   (cotton, coal and iron)

Assignment
You will get divided (by me!) into groups of 3.
Each group gets assigned an invention of the Industrial Revolution.
You will give a short presentation (of 3-4 minutes) on this invention in which you answer the following questions:
1. What does the invention do?
2. Who invented it?
3. Why was this invention so important during the Industrial Revolution?
or any other information you deem important

However! You cannot say 'ehm' or any other filling words!
