Make a passive:
Lots of books ... (buy) by my father every year.
A
are bought
B
is bought
C
were bought
D
have been bought

Slide 16 - Quiz

Since "every year" suggests a present simple tense, we use:

are (because "books" is plural)
bought (past participle of "buy"
Make a passive sentence:
Lots of books ... (read) by children in 1890.
A
are read
B

Slide 17 - Quiz

The sentence is in passive voice (focus on "books").
The action happened in 1890 (past time), so we use past simple passive:
was/were + past participle
"Books" is plural, so we use "were" + "read" (past participle of "read" – same spelling, but pronounced like "red"
