Wat gaan we doen?

In these lessons, we will explore and express personal reflections through creative writing, social reflections, photography and identity exploration, inspired by the city of Amsterdam. We will walk, talk, write and share about and with the people and places of the city.

Why this course?

Part of the master's degree "Professional writing", was a course called "Writing London", which I really enjoyed. 

That course is the inspiration for this course.

How would you describe Amsterdam?
Is "Amsterdam" part of your identity or not (yet)?

Writing time

Write a short story (fiction or non-fiction) in which part of this city plays a part.

Next week

In Panorama Amsterdam, laten we de stad in al haar facetten zien. Welke eigenschappen typeren Amsterdam nou bij uitstek? En zijn die er altijd geweest? Hoe zal de stad zich verder ontwikkelen? Door verhalen uit het verleden, het heden en de toekomst met elkaar te verbinden, ontstaat er een breed vergezicht op de stad. Amsterdam in al zijn dimensies.

We gaan naar het musuem, en daarna schrijven we een persoonlijke reactie op ons bezoek. 

We verzamelen in 606 en dan gaan we met tram 14 erheen dus neem je OV kaart mee.

> You've got twenty minutes to go outside and take a photograph (alone of in a duo) of a person or a place
> Then come back and show the photo(s)

Writing time: person + place

Inspirational exercise, think about places & emotions. Write down: 
A place you/they were miserable
A place you/they were happy
A place you/they were angry
A place you/they felt lonely
A place you foudn exciting
A place you made a friend
A place you'd like to live
A place you don't want to return to

Now it's time to really write

Now write about something/someone in your photo linked to a place.
Who is your story about? What does the person want? Why?

If you need inspiration: come look at the "unfinished sentences" in my book. 
Write in English or Dutch.
