• Be able to explain how to work safely in a hair salon
• Be able to complete a consultation on a peer with support
• Be able to describe massage techniques used when shampooing
• Be able to select the correct shampoo and conditioner to use based on consultation results

Things you need to remember EVERY session

Tools are clean and fit for purpose

Electrical equipment is safe to use

Work area is clean and tidy

Tools are clean and fit for purpose

• Free from hair, product build up and other build up
• Sterilised before and after use
• Sterilised if dropped on the floor
• Combs do not have teeth missing
• Section clips are free from colour!!!!  

Electrical equipment is safe to use

• All electrical equipment has been PAT tested 
• Hairdryers have a guard on the back
• Straighteners, tongs and wands are placed on heat proof mats and left on the side of dispensary once finished being used
•  Heat protector is used on all hair types 

Work area is clean and tidy

• Trolley cleaned before and after use
• Only tools, equipment and products being used to be out
• Be aware of trailing wires

Consultation

• To find out client requirement
• To identify hair type and condition
• To identify scalp condition
• To identify head and face shape
• To help decide on products, tools and equipment to use
• To find out if the service is achievable
•  To identify hair growth patterns

Structure of hair

When we do a porosity test we are checking the external condition of he hair- the CUTICLE

When we carry out an elasticity test we are checking the internal condition of the hair- the CORTEX
