Why we can't say two hour
  • Clocks as we know them were invented 700 years ago.
  • Before that, people used sundials, which measure time differently.
  • All of the sudden there was a problem. "What time is it?"
  • Well, it is two of the sun, but three of the clock.
  • People got lazy and three of the clock became three o' clock.

Why we can't say half two
  • Always say half past  ....
  • In British English, you might hear 'half two', but that does not mean it's correct.
  • Even though it is used by some people, it is rather informal and therefore you had better not use it.
