Slide 3 - Diapositive

We'll watch the BBC weather forecast of today.

Which different elements of weather do you recognize?

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Slide 5 - Lien

In the weather forecast you've recognised the four charecteristics or elements of weather:

Exercise
For each of the three types of rainfall, explain step by step how the rainfall is caused

Can you explain it to someone who has never heard about this before? (like a younger brother or sister, or your cat or dog)

Slide 9 - Diapositive

Tropical Rainforest
Warm all year round (25-30 degrees)
Extremely high rainfall
No different seasons
Around the equator

Slide 10 - Diapositive

Savannah
Tropical climate with a dry period

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Steppe
Arid climate
Precipitation 250-450 mm per year

Slide 12 - Diapositive

Desert
Arid climate
Precipitation 0-250 mm per year

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Temperate Sea Climate
Sea climate
Cool summers (below 20), soft winters (above 0)
Rainfall throughout the year

Slide 14 - Diapositive

Mediterranean climate
Sea climate
Warm, dry summers
Soft, wet winters

Slide 15 - Diapositive

Land climate / continental climat
Big difference between summer and winter temperature

Slide 16 - Diapositive

Tundra climate
Summer: 0 - 10 degrees
Winter: below 0

Slide 17 - Diapositive

Polar climate
Temperature always below 0

Climate graph
Can you tell me how to
read a graph like this?

What does the red line mean?
What do the blue bars mean?

Slide 20 - Diapositive

Climate graph
The red line shows the
average temperature per
month (in ºC)

The blue bars show the
average amount of
precipitation (in mm per month)

Slide 21 - Diapositive

Let's practice!
Use page 240 - 244 in Atlas
Use your iPad to look up cities

Connect the cities to the graphs

Don't be shy to raise your hand
