Grammar - 'the'

Je gebruikt the voor een specifiek persoon, dier of ding.
Dit werkt hetzelfde als de/het in het Nederlands:

The president gave a speech.

The book is on the table.

Je gebruikt GEEN the als het gaat over personen, dieren of dingen in het algemeen:

The books are on the table. (specifieke boeken)

I love reading books. (boeken in het algemeen)

Wanneer gebruik je wel the en wanneer niet?

I am at the prison. (je bezoekt de gevangenis)

I am in prison. (je bent zelf een gevangene)

I am at the school. (je bezoekt de school)

I am at school. (je bent een leerling)

Grammar - a/an

Je gebruikt a of an voor niet specifieke dingen.
Dit werkt hetzelfde als een in het Nederlands.

Het verschil tussen a en an zit in of het woord klinkt alsof het  begint met een klinker (a, i, o, u, etc.)
Let dus op uitspraak!

Je gebruikt het hele werkwoord zonder to om aanwijzingen (richting), taken, advies en/of waarschuwing te geven.

Cross Victoria Street.

Je kan ook don't voor het werkwoord zetten om te zeggen dat iemand juist iets niet hoeft te doen of moet doen.
