(de grote wijzer staat links)

De grote wijzer staat rechts                   : to

Het aankomende uur                                 : 4

Telling time

Als de grote wijzer op 6 staat, zeg je:

• half past (....)
• het gaat om het uur dat net is geweest

Als de grote wijzer op 12 staat, zeg je:

• (....) o' clock

Als de grote wijzer op de 3 staat zeg je...

• a quarter past (....)
• je zegt nooit 'fifteen past three'
• fifteen = quarter

Als de grote wijzer op 9 staat zeg je:

• a quarter to (....)
• je zegt nooit 'fifteen to three'
  
• fifteen = quarter

• past: alle tijden vanaf het hele uur tot het halve uur 
• to: alle tijden vanaf het halve uur tot het hele uur
• Let op 1: hele uren noem je ... o'clock
• Let op 2: halve uren krijgen past (half past ... )
• Let op 3: bij tijden gebruik je in het Nederlands 'om',                     in het Engels gebruik je 'at'                                               > om één uur = at one o'clock

Het Engels kent maar 2 kloktijden:
