What is an electrical circuit?

An electrical circuit allows electricity to flow from a power source to an electrical component. 

The Electrical circuit on the left is 'closed'. The electrical circuit on the right is 'open'.

What do 'open'and 'closed' mean?

What does a 'switch' have to do with 'open' and 'close'?
