Plural (meervoud)
Most nouns (zelfstandige naamwoorden) have a regular form. You make these words plural by adding an -s.
gift - gifts
phone - phones
message - messages
Note! Never use -'s for the plural form.

Nouns that end with an -s, -ss, -x, -z or -ch get -es.
bus - buses
match - matches
glass - glasses
box - boxes
quiz - quizzes

Some nouns have different plural forms. Nouns that end with a consonant (medeklinker) and -o usually get -es.
hero - heroes
tomato - tomatoes
echo - echoes
There are exceptions, however:
photo - photos 
solo - solos

Nouns that end with an -f or sometimes with -fe get -ves.
shelf - shelves
dwarf - dwarves
knife - knives

Nouns that end with a -y that sound like /i:/ and have a consonant before the -y get -ies.
party - parties
baby - babies
penny - pennies
When the word ends in a vowel (klinker) +y, it just gets an -s.

Some nouns have an irregular plural form and get a completely different plural form. You have to learn these by heart.

 My trousers/jeans/shorts are too long.
His sunglasses are cool.
