Slide 2 - Diapositive

Order of Phrases:
- In Dutch, we first mention the determination of time and after determination of time we mention place.
In English, it is the other way round.

For example: We gaan morgen naar amsterdam/We travel to Amsterdam tomorrow.

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Order of phrases:
- In English, all the verbs in the sentence are together. In Dutch, this is not necessary, or sometimes even sounds strange.

For example: We kunnen morgen naar Amsterdam gaan/We can go to Amsterdam tomorrow.

What is a clause:
Een clause is een groep woorden die wel of niet los kan staan.
Een sentence kan altijd los staan.

Bijvoorbeeld: Come here is a clause and I want you to go is a sentence.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

Order of phrases:
- So the place clause always comes before the time clause. Manner, place, time . Except when you want to emphasise the time. Then you put it right at the beginning of the sentence.

For example: I went to the parc yesterday.
Yesterday I went to the parc.

Order of phrases:
 - The way something happens represents the place. The correct order of clauses is: manner, place, time.

For example: I worked hard at the office yesterday.
