Modals (hulpwerkwoorden)

• Must = moeten > als je zelf vindt dat iets moet

        - You must buy that game, it is amazing. 

• Have to = moeten > noodzaak, zekerheid, verplichting

        - You have to get a VISA to get into the USA. - This has to be her jumper. - I have to leave! 

• Should = zou (eigenlijk) moeten > advies, maar geen verplichting

        - Jack should study for his test. 

• Can = of jij/iemand iets kan

       - Can you speak English?

• Could = Beleefde vragen

       - Could you help me please.

should-have to-must

Deze hulpwoorden gebruik je om te zeggen dat er iets moet gebeuren.

1. Should =advies. 

2. have to = het moet, het is verplicht.

3. must = als je zelf vindt dat het moet of als het moet maar het is niet verplicht.

-Wanneer de spreker zelf vindt dat een actie gedaan moet worden.

-Ook gebruikt om iemand sterk aan te raden iets te doen als het niet verplicht is

Have to

Have to = verplicht.

All drivers have to stop in front of a red traffic light!

Have/Has to

-Een verplichting

-Een actie MOET gedaan worden

She has to take her pills twice a day.

can/could

Je gebruikt can of could vooraan een vraag als je vraagt of jij/iemand anders iets kan doen.

Can you call me back?

Could you give me some money, please?

Could is de beleefde versie van can!

• Can, could, should, have to and must zijn hulpwerkwoorden. ( modals- auxiliary verbs)
• Deze werkwoorden veranderen niet van vorm, behalve have to. Bij he/she/it wordt het has to.
• Ze staan voor het echte werkwoord.
