Today we will study the simple past and present perfect again.

Simple past and present perfect

simple past: verb + ed / irregular verbs

- used when something happened in the past

present perfect: have / has + voltooid deelwoord 

- used when something started in the past and continues into the present

- used when something has just finished

- used when something happened in the past (!)

So, both can be used when we are talking about past activities. 

However, when the sentence tells you when something happened, you have to use the simple past.

I saw / have seen that movie.

I saw that movie yesterday.

present perfect: since (+tijd), for (+tijd), so far, yet, just, how long ...?, always, never

I ... her since 2000. (live)

They ... this church in 1650. (build)
