Udvariasság I.

A britekre jellemző a túlzott, zavarbaejtő udvariaskodás (plusz sok angolul beszélő népre is -pl a kanadaiakra). 
Érdekesség, hogy például a személyes névmások a magázó verziók. A tegező formula is létezett korábban, de mára teljesen kihalt, esetleg irodalmi művek olvasása közben találkozhatunk velük:

You - Ön --> Thee - Te

-Ne mondd:  I want a hamburger.

-Mondd:        I would like a hamburger. VAGY I’ll have a hamburger.

Udvariasság II.

-Ne mondd:  Send me the report.

-Mondd:        Could you send me the report, please?

-Ne mondd:  Go away!

-Mondd:        Could you give me a minute, please?

-Ne mondd:  Tell me when you are ready.

-Mondd:        Let me know if you are ready.

-Ne mondd:  You are wrong.

-Mondd:        I’m afraid I disagree. VAGY I think you might be mistaken.

Udvariasság III.

-Ne mondd:  That’s a bad idea.

-Mondd:        I am not sure that’s a good idea. VAGY I have a few concerns

-Ne mondd:  You are so stupid...

-Mondd:        Wow, that's a great idea. I'm really impressed. But, may I have a few comments on it?

Időhúzásra:
