Relative pronouns
Gebruik: een betrekkelijke bijzin verbinden met de hoofdzin. De relative pronoun (=betrekkelijk voornaamwoord) verwijst terug naar iets of iemand dat eerder is genoemd.
Martin played Tennis with Sophie, who was slightly injured.

persoon/ding; zonder komma
= who, which of that weglaten als het geen onderwerp is in de bijzin.
She is the football coach Ø I admire the most. (I is het onderwerp).
This is the cat which followed me home. (which is het onderwerp van de bijzin).
Na een komma gebruik je nooit 'that'. De bijzin kan je niet weglaten omdat je anders niet begrijpt over wie/wat het gaat.
VB The man that/who visited my birthday is my father. (Je bedoelt een specifieke man.)

Personen, dingen; bezittelijk This is the man whose book you are holding.
Personen This is George’s brother, with whom I went to school.
Plaatsen This is the building where I forgot my bag.
Tijden It was the year when we graduated.
Whom gebruik je als het een lijdend/meewerkend onderwerp is (=ondergaat het werkwoord).
Komt vaak na voorzetzels zoals to, for, on of by.
Who ipv whom wordt steeds vaker geaccepteerd.
