You can add like terms. 

Terms are 'like terms' if they have the same combination of letters.

If the terms are not 'like', then write 'na' for 'no answer'.

Solving linear equations

The next few slides show examples of how to solve linear equations.

1. Work out the brackets, 
2. Add like terms,
3. Add and subtract so the letter term is on the left and the number on the right. (Here +6x and +5 on both sides.)
4. Divide by the number in front of the letter!

with fractions

Get rid of fractions by multiplying by a number that all denominators fit into.
The numbers 6, 8 and 2 all fit into 24! 
(24 is the lowest commom multiple of 2, 6 and 8)
