The Baltic Trade (moedernegotie)
Cities in the Low Countries had traded with the Baltic area since the 14th century. During the 16th and 17th century it would become the most important trading routes for Amsterdam.
The Republic exported luxury products like wine and salt to countries around the Baltic
The Republic imported bulk goods like grain and wood. These were stored in Amsterdam.
From Amsterdam, they were exported to other countries in Europe (for a higher price of course)
