Welcome! 

- In this lesson you're going to practice your listening skills as you'll have an English listening test during the upcoming test week. 

- I created this lesson based off your answers from the questionnaire. 

- We'll start with some pre-listening exercises, then you can watch the video and answer some multiple choice questions. 

- Afterwards I'd like to know your opinions on this lesson.

- At the end of the lesson you'll have some time to review your grammar test.

Learning objectives

• After this lesson I can activate my prior knowledge about music by answering questions  in English.
• After this lesson I can understand spoken English about the evolution of music by being introduced to the key terms and doing a matching exercise.
• After this lesson I can understand a C1-level video about the evolution of music by identifying main ideas and specific details through answering multiple-choice questions.
•  After this lesson I gain more knowledge about music and its history.

Listening practice

- We're going to watch a video about the evolution of music. 

- Before we start the video I want you all to think about how much you know so far.

- On the next slide you'll see a couple of questions. For a minute think about your answers (individually). Then once you're done thinking you can share your answers (in English) in pairs. ±5min

1. How do you think music has changed from ancient times to now?

o Think about how instruments, styles, and reasons for making music might have changed over time.

2. Can you name any famous musicians or composers from different times in history? What did they do for music?

o Share any famous names you know and talk about how they made a difference in music.

3. Why do you think people made music in ancient times? How is that different from why we listen to music today?

o Think about the reasons people made music back then and compare it to why we listen to music now.

4. How do you think technology has changed the way we make and listen to music today?

o Talk about how new tech has affected music creation and listening habits.

Reflecting

- I'm going to hand out a form with some questions and the purpose of it is for me to find out what your opinions about the lesson and to determine, based on your answers, whether my lesson is effective and how it can be improved. 

- It is completely anonymous, so you don't need to write your name.

Reviewing the grammar test

- Count all your points and check whether it's correct.

- For the passive exercise you can get two points per sentence: 1 for the correct tense and 1 for the rest of the sentence.
