A big problem for Australia:
climate change
Australia often faces wild fires, destroying forests and thousands of houses. This also affects the animals in the country, like kangaroos and koalas, because their habitats (= leefgebieden) are getting smaller and they have a lot of trouble finding food.

Climate change is also destroying the Coral Reef: because the sea is getting warmer, the coral is dying.

Scientists and climate activists are working very hard to try and save nature in Australia, like the people in the next video, who are trying to save the turtles. Watch this video carefully, because I will ask some questions about the video!

The final assignment
Look at page 16 in your booklet:

During the last 5 lessons, you’ve seen a lot of news videos. Now that you’re a professional news reporter, you’re going to record your very own English news broadcast. This will be done in groups of 4/5, and you have 2 full lessons to finish this assignment. The video should be min. 3 and max. 5 minutes long. You can find a list of useful language on the last page of your booklet.

News videos
Your news video should have a(n):
  • Beginning: welcome the audience, explain what news item you're going to talk about (short introduction).
  • Middle: reporter that is at the location of the event shows and explains the situation. You should also include an interview with someone, during which you talk about the news item.
  • Ending: summarise what you talked about, thank your audience for watching.
