This aim of this lesson is to help you understand and use the various future tenses. The book (p.199) lists 4 ways of speaking about the future:
will/shall + verb
to be going to + verb
present continuous
present simple
There are more ways to refer to the future, but for now this is it :)!

Will + verb (future simple 1)
will + verb:
future plans - I will call you later
Things that are set in the future (decisions) - Dad will meet you at the airport.
Predictions about the future - Touristic space travel will soon become possible.
To make promises or offers - I will do my homework tonight, Mum. / Don't worry, I'll drive you home later.
shall=will, but can only be used with I and we, is more formal and cannot be used for predictions.

To be going to + verb (future simple 2)
to be going to + verb:
future plans/intentions (to do sth) that have already been decided before (we speak) - James says he is going to work harder, because his mum convinced him the day before that he had to do so.
predictions based on facts or events in the present - It's going to snow tonight. I'm sure. Look at the sky!

Present continuous
to be + verb & -ing:
I am having a meeting at two o'clock
Talking about plans and arrangements for the (near) future. There is often a time reference that makes this future meaning clear. Also it indicates that something has been agreed with someone else.
- What are you doing tonight? I am having dinner with Tom.
- Johnny's starting school next September.

Present simple
full verb/ verb + -s (he/she/it): The new pool is due to open in April.
timetables and schedules: The plane leaves at 10:45. (It is now 08:15)
definitive (and unchangeable) planned events: The new pool is due to open in April.
future references in subordinate clauses after time conjunctions like when, before, until, as soon as: We'll reply when we hear from you. / Text me as soon as you get home.
