Facts
What is a fact?
A fact is a statement that you can check.
How can I recognise a fact?
You can check whether a fact is true or not.
Facts do not need to be scientific. For example, the statement
'My family consists of five people' is a fact.
Slide 8 - Diapositive
An opinion
What is an opinion?
An opinion is a belief or a personal view.
How can I recognise an opinion?:
It is what someone thinks about a subject.
An opinion cannot be checked because an opinion cannot be true or false.
But you can agree or disagree with someone's opinion.
Strong descriptive words, like best, worst, fantastic, awful , etc.
Slide 9 - Diapositive
Another way of giving an opinion
Without clue words >> Opinions are presented as facts.
For instance:
This car is comfortable and spacious is a personal view: other people might say the car is neither comfortable nor spacious.
Slide 10 - Diapositive
