'If' statements:

zero conditional

• If it rains, the grass gets wet.
• If it RAINS (present simple) today, 

       the grass GETS (present simple) wet.

USE

• For facts / general truth

If you ..... (heat) ice, it ..... (melt)

'If' statements:

1st conditional

• If it rains today, I will stay at home.
  
• If it RAINS (present simple) today, I WILL STAY (future tense) at home.  

2nd conditional

• If Superman came here now, I would say hello.
  
• If Superman CAME (past simple) here now, I WOULD SAY (WOULD + INF) hello.
  

When do we use the 1st conditional
(If it rains, I'll stay home)?

Real/likely situation: If + present simple => will

The mirror says, "If I tell the truth, I will get broken..........."

Realistic situations
