Wat is een gerund? 

Een werkwoord dat gebruikt wordt als zelfstandig naamwoord. 

Als onderwerp van een zin. 

"Cycling is my favourite hobby."

Na een voorzetsel 

"He is not good at cycling. "

Na bepaalde uitdrukkingen / werkwoorden om aan te geven dat je iets wel of niet leuk vindt.

"He enjoyed having a day off."

Hoe maak je de gerund?

Werkwoord +ing 

De gerund lijkt dus qua vorm heel erg op de present continuous (I am going to the city), maar dan ZONDER een vorm van 'to be'

Een gerund is een..

You ask yourself: "What is good for your health?"

Is eating = present continuous

You Ask yourself: "What is she doing right now?" She is eating.

Use to + infinivitve with:

to want:   I want to buy a new car.

to hope:   Sally hopes to have a good time.

to ask:  We asked to go to the party.

to expect: You are expecting to pass this test.

to promise: Tom promised to do the dishes.

to decide: He is deciding to pick the fast route.

to plan: Tom has planned to travel to Morocco for years.

to refuse: Jim refuses to listen to my advice.
