Cardinal numbers

A cardinal number is a 'normal' number:

one, two, three, etc

Cardinal numbers

Watch the spelling of certain numbers:

Four (4) - forty (40)

Five (5) - fifteen (15) - fifty (50)

Eight (8) - eighteen (18)

And use a hyphen!
twenty-two, forty-six, eighty-nine.

Ordinal numbers

An ordinal number is a 'rangtelwoord' in Dutch.

I have number four on my shirt

I am the fourth in line

four - fourth

Ordinal numbers

Most ordinal numbers are just cardinal numbers with 

'th' added at the end.

Six - sixth

Twenty-eight - twenty-eighth

A hundred - hundredth

Ordinal numbers

Do watch the spelling of some ordinal numbers:

twelve - twelfth

five - fifth

nine - ninth

sixty - sixtieth

Exceptions:

one - first

two - second

three - third

This also goes for numbers ending in one, two and three:

twenty-one - twenty-first

fifty-two - fifty-second

seventy-three - seventy-third

The abbreviated form ends in the last two letters of the word:

first - 1st

second - 2nd

third - 3rd
