Used for:
  • A fact in the future > The sun will rise tomorrow.
  • A promise, an offer or a request > Will you help me? 
  • A spontaneous decision > "Oh, we're out of milk."                   "Oh, I'll get some!" 
  • A prediction for which you have no evidence (more of an opinion) >  Don't mind the polls. I'm sure the LibDems will win.

Used for:
  • A decision that you made earlier > Julie: There's no milk.
John: I know. I'm going to go and get some when this TV programme finishes.
  • Future plans when there's nothing really arranged > Next summer I am going to spend a week in Brazil.
  • A prediction based on evidence > Look at those dark clouds! I think it's going to rain

I'm meeting Jim at the airpot. (discussed it with John)
I am leaving tomorrow at 18.00. (bought ticket)
